PSI Michigan Class C Elevator Contractor Examination Certification Package

the exam consists of 25 questions and you get 30 minutes to complete the test. the minimum passing score is a 70%.

The examination for the Class C Elevator Contractor license is similar to the journeyperson examination, however questions are geared more towards design, factors of safety & tests the applicant’s knowledge at a deeper and more complex level. A Class C Elevator license is device specific, examinees will only be tested on the device types they have been approved for. The examination for the Elevator Class C Contractor license consists of modules by device type. There are 5 different modules an applicant could qualify for. Each module will contain questions specific to that device type. Questions shall include, but not be limited to, questions designed to test an individual's knowledge of the elevator safety board act, the elevator licensing act, the Michigan elevator rules, the safety standards in effect at the time of the examination: ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators; ASME A18.1 Safety Standard for Platform Lifts and Stairway Chairlifts; and the current NFPA 70: National Electrical Code.

The Class C Contractor examination module consists of 5 device specific modules:

  • Stairway Chairlifts (SC)
  • Platform Lifts (PL)
  • Limited Use Limited Application Elevators (LULA)
  • Private Residence Elevators (RES)
  • Dumbwaiters (DW)

The examination is OPEN BOOK. The following reference material is allowed in the examination site:

All reference materials must be bound. The materials printed from the BCC website must be bound by 3 staples on the left edge in separate documents.

Candidates are responsible for bringing their own references to the examination center. Any candidate caught writing, highlighting, underlining and/or indexing in the references during the examination will be reported to the BCC. Furthermore, candidates are not permitted to bring in any additional papers (loose or attached) with their approved references
